Greenhouse Gases cause the greenhouse effect. In a recent lab students created Greenhouses and took temperatures at various point to see which green house was trapping more heat. This was done after completing several lessons about nutrient cycles that cause these Greenhouse emissions.

The students were given a ziploc bag, two beakers, an alka seltzer tablet, and two thermometers. In the first beaker was just 200 mL of water, in the second beaker was 200 mL of water and two alka seltzer tables. The beakers were placed into two separate ziplock bags with the thermometer to next to the beaker, and zipped closed.

The temperature was taken every 3 minutes for 30 minutes. The students were able to note how greenhouse gas emissions like CO2 produces more heat. It was an experiment that was fun to practice skills of practicing accuracy to take temperature. We also did the experiment in the classroom using LED bulbs, but ideally the experiment is done outdoors.
